HOME | ANCHOR PIECE

I remember the day I bought this chest, I’d touched down from a whirlwind trip from New York, whistle stop to literally swap suitcases in London and jump on another flight to Bologna for work. Having landed in Bologna bleary eyed and bushy tailed I needed to kill the jet-lag about to set in so I went for a wander in the old town. Old town Bologna is one of my favourite places to shop and eat and sit in the Piazza Maggiore with ice cream, depending on the season, (any season for me really) to people watch. I spotted the chest as I was walking past the Maison du Monde store, through the windows, I didn’t even have to go in but I knew this was the piece I wanted to anchor my home in.

As with everything in my home, it is undone and fluid; it will fit in anywhere. I walked in, paid for it on the spot and they guaranteed delivery within five days back to the UK. I nodded my head dismissively because I was prepared to wait a month for it. More fool me because they delivered this before I could move into my apartment. HA!

Granted this piece has now moved to my bathroom, see how fluid it is, to become my vanity, its the piece which I draw inspiration from, the one my home whirls around, the colours and mood. And it only took me literally five minutes to buy and five days to get it shipped in one piece. I’d go to Bologna again and again if only for this… afterwards I hightailed back to my hotel to make it to a business dinner, where to topic of the night was the chest I bought on a whim even before I’d gotten the keys to my apartment. Talk about impulsive, but I guess when you know, you just know.

Speaking of Bologna, it is one of my favourite place to visit in Italy. More to come on that…
