NYFW SS14 Best In Show- Michael Kors

This round of New York Fashion Week has been pretty savvy, if a little disjointed without one overarching movement or theme on play, the variety worked for me; common sense with a dose of fun and functionality was mostly on display. My favourite shoe was Michael Kors. In fashion, especially during Fashion Week, rarely do you have a show where everything you see is immediately wardrobe friendly and relatable to any woman, from the runway. I love the mix of classics and eras, plenty of forties and the seventies, Annie Hall, Kramer vs Kramer, I love the Americana vibe, the relaxed but impeccably tailored pieces, trousers loose, silk blouses, forties style dresses, trench coats thrown over dresses, as an after thought, my mother used to do this and I still do it, hopefully I look as cool as the models do on the runway…I said hopefully. Skirts, long, short, with slit and belted. And the DRESSES OH MY GOODNESS THE DRESSES!! I couldn’t and cannot get over them. The forties were an obvious reference point here for Michael Kors, belted/waisted, sexy shoulders and styled with that woman in a rush on the go demeanour but still damn sexy and confident and comfortable. This time comfort was not an afterthought it was the focal point and I appreciate that. There were knits too, in skirts and dresses, cosy cardigans, khakis, swimwear…I literally LOVE EVERYTHING in this collection. Michael Kors dug deep and hard and he brought the goods.

Without question for me this was simply the best, not because Kors employed some out of this world technique but because he factored the daily life into his whole aesthetic, he made the everyday, ever woman wardrobe functional and fashionable with very little effort. Marvellous. Just simply marvellous.
