Christmas- The Windows

Christmas is my second favourite time of year, the first being my birthday of course, Christmas has a special place in my heart, the season, the feeling, food, weather, family, friends, carols, church… for me its all good things rolled into one.

One of the things that makes me excited for Christmas are the holiday windows in the shops, snow, fashion, lights, tradition, Santa and his reindeers, imagination next to none. A few weeks ago I saw the Selfridges windows and tonight I completed my rounds with Harrods, Harvey Nichols and my new favourite store, Fortnum and Mason.

Harrods- Basic

Yhis is a little flat this year, nothing on this window last year, its more basic, and ho-hum which is a shame really since its up against really stiff competition, but you be the judge.

Harvey Nichols- The weird and wonderful christmas in the wild forest

I would imagine, or something close to it, if Christmas was done in the wild forest that is. Everything comes together and stands apart in this window, and its got an element of other worldliness that works in a weird and wacky way, the clothes shine, but the power is in the details, the upside down christmas trees, the gilt logs outside the store against the building itself, the medusa hair on the model, still nothing overpowers and everything feels as it should be. A job well done.

Fortnum and Mason-A quiet decadence.

Instead of models it uses all the elements of christmas to bring it to life, puddings, silverware, candles, drinks, christmas trees, snow, gifts… its all so especial and joyful it warms my heart just thinking about it. This is the holidays done right.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. I wish lots of love, laughter and good fortune.
