Dark chocolate- I hate dark chocolate. I’m not much of a lover of chocolate per se but I especially harbour a deep loathing for dark chocolate. I can only assume its because of this loathing that I have never made brownies, never really cared for them growing up either. Although it could equally be because I equate having brownies to drinking milk which I also loathe…but I love cookies and milk and cookies is meant to be the bees knees. Oh I don’t know, but what I do know is that I absolutely, positively do not do dark chocolate and brownies did not do it for me until now.
I substituted the dark chocolate for Nutella, of course, and everything else just fell into place. I’ll tell you for nothing now, these brownies are the MVP of all brownies; bloody amazing, lip-smacking, finger-licking amazing, even if I do say so myself. Soft in the middle with gooey chocolate and chewy malteasers…yumm. I’ll admit, the first batch I made was a dud, it didn’t fully bake but I was not about to let that get the better of me; if at first you don’t succeed… well I went right back in and the second time was the charm.
Brownies mean sugar. Brownies mean butter. Brownies mean all the fatty badness there is to be had so if you are looking for something healthy, you won’t find that in this joint. Sorry. Not sorry. lol.
To make these brownies you’ll need;
200g Jar of Nutella
100g White chocolate
Unsalted butter
250g Billingtons golden caster sugar
3 Eggs (large or medium)
1 tsp vanilla
60g Plain flour
1/2 tsp Baking powder
30g cocoa powder
Dash of salt
1/4 Horlicks
200g Malteasers
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees, grease your 9 by 13inch baking pan with butter or line a rectangular oven dish with grease proof paper and set aside.
Melt the white chocolate over a pot of simmering hot water, ensure the bowl is not touching the water. Once melted scoop in the Nutella and the butter and mix until its all full incorporated. Set aside to cool.
In a medium sized bowl whisk together the sugar and eggs until well combined, pour in the vanilla and mix a little more. Slowly add in the cooled chocolate, butter and Nutella mixture mix all together.
Add the dry ingredients; flour, baking powder, cocoa power, salt and Horlicks into the sugar mixture, stir. Throw in the Maltesers, stir some more..
Pour the perfect mixture into your baking pan or dish and bake for some 25 minutes or until you give the bowl a gentle shake and the top doesn’t wobble. Since brownies are supposed to be gooey on the inside the shake test, I find, works best but whatever floats your boat.
Let it cool for a half hour. Square up and eat. Live a little and just EAT!!!
