NYFW AW’14- Monique Lhuillier’s Pretty Dark Things

Monique Lhuillier and prettiness are like two peas in a pod. Its her stock in trade, even when she claims to go dark, like her AW’14 show was slated to be, there was still a lot of pretty to be had. This collection was more romantic than dramatic. Divine were the silhouettes, less so were some of the mushy prints and the mesh but we can forgive her because the clothes were just so swoon worthy. The daywear was more tailored and structured with a pretty appropriateness about it, at times it reminded of that revolutionary Marc Jacobs show where he referenced the woman and my life changed forever, AW08/09… yeah that, but Lhuillier put her spin on it. Lace, close cut pencil skirts, fitted wiggle-esque dresses. I was not a fan of the vinyl however it was just a tad to shower curtain tacky, but everything else was sweet and where it was dark, it was tempered so we weren’t left feeling depressed. The evening wear was where she killed me like XO, that hot pink precious number will find its way to too many red carpets but especially special was that nude-ish sheer, biscuit number that had the knock me over with a feather effect. Breathtaking. But I’m beyond bored of the Mullet hemline…let’s call it a day now.
