NYFW AW’14- Jason Wu Comes Correct.

This is my first livestream of NYFW, I don’t know about you but it still doesn’t feel like its Fashion Week . Maybe its because there’s so much else going on right now what with the global shitty weather, Sochi, Mercury in retrograde etc. it feels like this has come a week too early. But its here and here we are.
SO Jason Wu. What an impressive collection. I’ve always felt that Wu belongs in Europe, Paris to be specific, because his vision feels more at home with the European pace of things a la, classic luxury, as opposed to the commercial chaos that New York can be. I say that with love New York, New York 😉 This was such a stunning outing. It was mostly high necks and glamour hence it felt like the perfect marriage between sexiness and class. It takes a certain je ne sais quoi to make high necks and calf lengths look this sexy. And maybe its the colours or the draping or both, but I felt a hint, just a pinch of Haider Ackermann… Plenty of sexy but very demure and sensual. Longer lengths, wide leg pants, velvet. I am not a fan of velvet but Wu worked a sexy curve with this fabric; it didn’t look heavy and tiring like velvet normally can be, rather he made it look very appealing. The colours were dark and the collection ran the risk of blandness with so much heavy and basic tones, but for the sheer depth of class present. Blacks, lots, a particularly refined deep purple, rich neutral and the most divine shade of teal I’ve ever seen. Ease brought on by fluid silhouettes made this even more pleasing to the eye, draped in all the right places. Where there was skin it was tastefully, no masterfully, done; a flash here, a tease there, deep necklines without boobage. I am literally beside myself with the slinky chemise dresses. And don’t even get me started on that rich chocolate leather coat with the double breasted buttons, high collar and all attitude. Just don’t. This was slick and Wu came at us very correct.
