The Middlemen.

Winter is coming. (that’s my new phrase now thanks to my obsession with the Game of Thrones ) We wind down and enjoy the last weeks of summer, prepping for the new season and looking forward to the most fashionable month of the year; September. Fashion Week, back to school, back to work etc. Temperatures get cooler and we are smack in-between seasons, end of summer- cusp of Autumn. Plenty pleasant. We all have our wardrobe essentials and OGs but the middlemen are the true legends of every closet, hard workers and survivors, theirs is a job that’s never done; trends may come and go but these pieces will stand the test of time. Fashions will change;  lengths will get longer, a jacket here and there and knits, soft luxe knits.

Here are my perfect middlemen aka the wardrobe heroes.

The Dress

The Middle Men dressesBold and block colours, leopard prints, work a charm in any wardrobe. You can be certain of safety in those options but no less fashionable. All embracing and forgiving. A dress should first and foremost, fit impeccably because the last thing you want to do is fret about your dress, whilst you’re on the go; its a distraction and a day ruiner. Find your perfect silhouette and invest in it, you won’t regret it because dresses are the all star of any wardrobe.

Red; Preen. Print; Burberry London. Colour Block; Fendi.

The Pants

The Middle Men pantPants. Fun print pants. The cropped horse print from Paul and Joe add just the right touch of fun to any look, you should never take fashion too seriously. Pair with a chambray or classic white shirt and its an instant style refresher. Now, its taken a long time for me to come round to the idea of joggers becoming a part of the essential wardrobe but I kinda sorta get it I guess, comfort with style; the founding principles of fashion…

Print; Paul & Joe. Black; Calvin Klein.

The light Knit

The Middle Men light knits

Markus Lupfer knows a thing or two about having fun with clothes, I love his playful take on the basic knitwear. From his collaboration with Katie Hillier comes this bumblebee light knit with Swarovski crystal embellished brooch. Its the bees knees (sorry I had to) and perfect for the middle seasons. The asymmetrical side slit wool jumper is just peach perfect; a flash of sexy and a touch of edge in that divine shade of grey, it’ll do just nicely.

Bee print; Markus Lupfer x Katie Hillier. Grey knit; Alexander Wang.

The Tops

The Middle Men tops

Dig deep and get out that denim shirt because its another all star for the season in-between but NOT all denim everything a la Britney and JT, *shivers*. With a pencil skirt, tailored shorts or cropped pants, a denim shirt is a shot caller. Leather vest tops are to be worn with caution; only when the weather permits but invest in one all the same, it’ll take you right through the winter too. I love that print shirts have become a thing and I appreciate how it breaks up the formality of a plain tailored shirt.

Denim; J.Crew Leather; Joie. Shirt; Miu Miu

The skirt

The Middle men skirts

Ladylike with a quiet sophistication, skirts are a tricky yet acquired piece, the perfect fitting skirt can work wonders for an outfit. The maxi skirt has returned to claim her rightful place of prominence in fashion, the midi is coming up trumps too and quickly becoming indispensable. Eternally feminine, this is a winning statement on style.

Maxi; Giambattista Valli. Midi; Marni.

The Outerwear.

The Middlemen jackets

Yes we’ll always have the blazer but for years the denim jacket was a saviour and once a classic always and forever a classic. As for the bomber jacket, it has been around and is now back around, hopefully it’ll stick around forever. These two will take centre stage in between the seasons, embrace them. The trick is to find a cut that works for your body shape.

Bomber; Acne. Denim Jacket; J.Crew.
