Madam Reads: J’adore New York by Isabelle LaFleche

A good book can get you through most anything, rainy days, slow days, dull days, all day. It’s the perfect indulgence. And J’adore New York from Isabelle Lefleche is just that, and then some more.
Catherine is the newbie transfer from the Paris to the New York offices of Edwards & White Law firm, who would like to make partner and score that coveted corner office with views to die for, sometime soon and not in ten years time, but at what cost? She soon learns that life is not all roses in fact it’s far from perfect in the shark infested waters of Edwards & White, with snarky assistants and tattle tales. In the grand scheme of things, she is just a pawn in the game of warlords, where billable hours and briefs are the least of her problems but a major part of her job. Throw in a charming lover with a hidden agenda, a firm full of snitches, a fun assistant Rikash, who really is Catherine’s hero, and Antoine…you have yourself quite the treat.
A penchant for J Crew and a world of luxury revolving doors of Dior, Catherine has her hands full and mind conflicted but she does find time for sneaky sample sale shopping and a getaway to the Hamptons…. It all comes to a head at the firms’ bonding weekend away in California where all is revealed but not as Catherine thought it was. Decisions. Decisions…
What I loved about this book besides everything is the sheer tenacity of Catherine whilst remaining poise in dealing with office politics, she never loses her signature French feistiness but she knows how to land that subtle yet resounding smack, like she did with the dry-cleaning memo. She does get carried away a tad, but it adds to the charm of her character and lends to more to the story. Read it, you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.
